The finest car routes

A good car route is the opposite of the fastest road: back roads with variety, villages, water and open land, and stops that carry the drive. These are the five drives we put together for exactly that, from the Frisian lakes and the IJsselmeer coast to the Limburg hills and the Ardennes just across the border. Generate each route free from your own doorstep, or turn it into a round trip with 1, 2 or 3 curated stops from our own selection.

What we weigh more heavily for a car route: variety and views instead of kilometres of crash barrier. Back roads with village centres, water and open land, the motorway share measured per route (target 0 percent), and stops from our own database: every point scored by hand on view, setting on the route and access. A curve index and elevation profile per route appear once our engine measures them live. Every route below is measured by us with motorways avoided, curated and checked (July 2026). How we measure.

Five drives worth setting a day aside for

Frisian harbour towns by car

Belgium · start Namur

Castle route through the Ardennes & Meuse valley

The trip just across the border: the Meuse valley and the Ardennes, with fortresses and views above the river. For anyone who wants a full day of driving without a single dull kilometre.

Round trip with curated stops from your own starting point

Type your start town and we build a loop of about two hours with two curated stops from our own selection. You can always adjust afterwards: longer or shorter, more or fewer stops, another vehicle.

71 stops in our database, each checked by hand. No need to share your location, a place name is enough; if too little near you is approved yet, we say so honestly.

Round trip, scenic drive or just a day of touring

Car route, scenic drive, round trip or a day of touring: it is about the same roads. Want a loop from home instead of A to B? Switch on the round trip in the planner: you choose how long you want to be out (1 to 4 hours) and "Another loop" swaps the variant. Passing something nice? Pick 1, 2 or 3 stops and we drop the finest points from our own database into the route, with the extra time shown honestly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I plan a round trip from my own location?

Switch on the round-trip toggle in the planner, choose how long you want to be out (1 to 4 hours) and start. Typing a place name is enough; sharing your location is only needed if you click "My location", and we never ask for it unprompted. "Another loop" gives you a different variant with the same duration.

How do the nice stops along the way work?

You pick 1, 2 or 3 stops and we select the finest points from our own database along your route: every point is scored and approved by hand, no random internet point ends up in your drive. Do not like a stop? Click it away and we recalculate. The extra driving time is shown honestly.

Are these car routes free?

Yes. Viewing, generating from your own start, downloading the GPX and roadbook and sharing are free, with a small Touren.app mark. Plus adds ad-free and offline driving.

Can I drive these routes on a motorbike or in a camper?

Yes. In the planner you choose your vehicle: car, motorbike or camper, and with a car you also pick a driving style (convertible, sports car, oldtimer). The same route then gets a different emphasis, from views to curves or relaxed touring.
