Scenic drives in Italy

Italy is the promised land for anyone who loves driving, and we are building it up from the south. On Sicily you drive the Etna loop past gorge and craters, the wine route through the crus of Etna and the baroque loop through the Val di Noto; alongside them lie the loops of Sardinia and the fly-drive from Catania Airport. Every route is measured and curated by hand, and every loop can start from your own holiday address.

What we weight more heavily on an Italy route: the finest road rather than the fastest, stops that carry the drive (a gorge, a lava town, a baroque square), and honest, measured figures. Every route is measured by us and curated by hand; driving them for ourselves follows (July 2026). How we put our routes together.

Frequently asked questions

Which Italy route suits me?

Staying on Sicily? You have a choice: the Etna loop (gorge, craters and coast) is the classic day, the Etna wine route runs among the cellars of the northern flank, and the baroque Val di Noto strings together Ortigia, Noto, Modica and Ragusa Ibla. On Sardinia you choose between the short and the full loop; landing at Catania, the fly-drive to Taormina is your first touring day.

Do you pay tolls in Italy, and what are ZTL zones?

Motorways usually charge tolls (on Sicily the A18 and A20 are toll roads; Sardinia has no tolls). Our routes tour almost entirely on free provincial roads. In old town centres watch for ZTL zones (restricted traffic, camera-enforced): park on the edge and walk in.

Are the routes and exports free?

Yes. Viewing the routes, generating them from your own starting point and exporting to GPX or Google Maps are free, with a small Touren.app credit.
