Which Black Forest route suits me?
For the classic panoramic road, choose the Black Forest High Road (B500) in the north. For waterfalls, half-timbering and the open-air museum, take the Triberg and Kinzig valley loop. For the two great lakes, the Feldberg and the dome of St. Blasien, the High Black Forest loop is your route. Together they cover the whole range from north to south.
How far is the Black Forest from the Low Countries?
The Black Forest is a holiday region, not a day trip: from the Netherlands it is about four to five hours away. If you are staying in the area, each route starts from your own base via the planner.
Are the Black Forest routes toll-free?
Yes. All three routes run on ordinary federal and country roads, toll-free and without a vignette. Germany has no vignette requirement for cars.
When is the best time to drive?
The finest months are May to October. The highest sections (the High Road, the Feldberg pass) can hold snow from late autumn into spring; bring winter tyres then.
